enjamin Keach (1640-1704) became a Baptist preacher near London when he was just eighteen years old.

In 1664 he wrote A Child's Instructor. The book differed from Church of England doctrine on baptism and the Lord's Supper and so he was fined and pilloried (as shown at the right). Keach wrote other books and introduced hymns into Baptist worship. It had been illegal to worship as a Baptist and the folk hadn't dared sing aloud for fear of capture.

Keach also founded the church that later became the pulpit of Charles Spurgeon--one of the most famous Baptist preachers of all time.
