illiam Carey (1761-1834) depicted here with his Brahman pundit, works on a translation of the Bible.

Carey, a humble English cobbler never earned a college degree. He left school by age 14. Yet he later became a professor of languages and oversaw the translation of the Bible into over 36 languages.

He became world famous as a missionary, linguist, botanist, and educator and is sometimes known as the "Father of Modern Missions."
