Jerusalem's Islamic temple known as the Dome of the Rock

last factoid: mass baptism in the Ukraine

he Dome of the Rock is an Islamic shrine in Jerusalem. From the center of the ceiling a chain is suspended to indicate the center of the world. Jerusalem is also central in the Bible where it is mentioned 656 times. And it is central in human conflict.

The city has been destroyed 17 times and rebuilt 18 times. The first crusade was called by Pope Urban II in 1095 to "rescue" Jerusalem and the holy Land from Moslem hands. They captured the city in 1099 but later lost it in 1187.
