Memorial Cathedral of Christ the Savior

he great Memorial Cathedral of Christ the Savior was built between 1838 and 1880 and was located on the Moscow River near the Kremlin. Built to honor God for the victory over Napoleon, this magnificent structure dominated the Moscow skyline. That is until the communist government had the cathedral blown up in the early 1930s.

Strangely, every time the Communists tried to use the land to erect their own replacement buildings they failed, as the ground proved unstable. Finally they just put a swimming pool there. Christians used it clandestinely for years for baptisms. Now with the communists out, plans are underway to rebuild the cathedral on its original site.
