aybe we shouldn't ask, but...

Who is this funny looking creature, and what is he doing at church?

 

This is a gargoyle. They were familiar and usually grotesque figures on medieval cathedrals. Used as water spouts on the roof, they no doubt offered workmen opportunity for playful diversion.
