Your editor has spent three decades in a ministry of Christian media, mostly in film and television. Over twenty years ago the focus of that film ministry, done under our sister companies Gateway Films and Vision Video, was guided into the area of Christian history productions. I soon found it imperative to find a way to provide more background to a subject than could be spelled out in a film, so Christian History magazine was launched to provide companion issues to go with our films. We formed Christian History Institute to publish the magazine and other history materials. We later turned the magazine over to Christianity Today Inc. as they were better able to publish it, and we turned our attention to a more modest history publication that would have a much broader reach to the person in the pew. Thus GLIMPSES was created as a church bulletin insert. Our goal is to give you true stories from our amazing and perplexing Christian family heritage--stories that provide examples, strength and insight.--Ken Curtis.

CHRISTIAN HISTORY MAY HELP YOU RELAX!

It has been my privilege for several years to teach church history in Young Life's masters degree program for youth leaders. I love to do it because these are usually eager students and highly motivated servants of God. Once while teaching this course, I gave what I thought was a stream of valuable wisdom on the reasons why we derive so much from studying the history of God's people. At the end I spontaneously threw in a remark not part of my carefully planned presentation. The comment was that the more we grasp our Christian history, the more we learn to relax , for we come to recognize the larger plans and purposes of God. By the end of the course I found that this off-the-cuff comment was what stuck with the students most. As dedicated youth leaders facing daily challenges and often anxious about how well they were carrying out their calling, the notion that an awareness of how God has worked over the ages would enable them to better relax really connected with them. We hope GLIMPSES will in some small way do the same for you and help you to better relax in the faithfulness of a loving Lord who sees the larger picture and who has never abandoned His people. -- Ken Curtis
